Junk Journal July Week 3: Prompts 15-21

We’ve made it to week 3. I’m going to be honest – I’m not always consistent with these challenges. That being said, I have really been having a good time with it this year, and have probably completed more pages than I ever have. But, as Voltaire said in 1770: Le mieux est l’ennemi du bien. 🤔 I don’t speak French either. It means “Perfect is the enemy of good”. So if you’re doing Junk Journal July, remember not to beat yourself up if you miss a day, or even 10 days. Keep creating when you’re inspired to, and enjoy the process.

Be sure to see how the other amazing artists are interpreting the prompts. Meg from Meg Journals has put together a playlist here. *Oh, and I hope you’ve checked out my contribution to the challenge on Day 22!

Day 15: Tucked Away

If you’ve watched any of my tutorials, you’ll probably notice I love to make little hidden pockets or spots in my journals, so this prompt was perfect for me to do that! I created an envelope from a marbled paper in my More Marbles digital kit along with a note card to tuck away inside of it. I was surprised how long this page took to create, but in the end, I love the little hidden spot to add some journaling.

Day 16: Maximalism

Sometimes, I can be too much. For others, for me, for days. So I created a journal page to kind of reflect that. I typed the quote “You’ll be too much or too little for some people. But you’ll be just right for the right people.” I liked it because I think it’s important to find your people! After fussy cutting a giant flower for the base of the page, which is pretty maximalist too, I added my quote and Day 16 was a wrap!

Day 17: Pause

This prompt made me think of time. So I grabbed a clock stencil and used some distress ink to make it shine on the page. Then I added some matching collage papers to both the top and bottom of the page to give it some congruity. Fussy cut butterflies as the final touch really made the whole thing pop.

Day 18: Favorite Supply

I could probably go on and on about supplies. It would be really hard for me to pick a favorite. So for this page, I just gathered up some of my favorites (because if I would’ve grabbed them all, I’d probably still be working on this page!) and added them to the page. Fabric with stitching, lace with double-sided tape, little pre-made clusters (if you want to see how I make these to use in any journal page, you can go here!) and some lovely vintage photos from a year book.

Day 19: Interactive

Folio’s are probably one of my favorite things to make. They take a while and some brain power to put them all together, but they always turn out deliciously interactive and fun! For this prompt, I used a lot of left-over papers to create a small fold-out folio with pockets and flips. I sewed everything (because, well, I like to sew everything!) and then glued the whole piece down to the back inside cover of the journal. The pockets are all empty for now – I thought I might even fill them with more creations made during the rest of the Junk Journal July challenge.

Day 20: Letter to Myself

Do you write letters to yourself? I’ve done this a few times, and I will say I love just spilling all my thoughts out onto a page and then covering it all up! What comes out of my head sometimes needs to be just a conversation between me, myself and I. So for this page – that’s just what I did. Wrote out my thoughts first on the page and then smeared on paint to cover it up. Then, to pretty it up a bit, I added some ephemera and labels. Paint splatters always seem to make things look more finished, so I mixed a little water with some off-white paint and splattered away with an old toothbrush.

Day 21: Contrast

The last prompt for this week is Contrast – and I thought it would be fun to create some contrast using fonts somehow. I took some chunky distressed letter stamps and stamped “TRUST”, “TAKE” and “COMMIT” with them, since they are words in my bible verses for the year (Psalm 37:3-7). Then I added some of my own handwriting in gold lettering on some paint samples. I love how the contrast looked! To finish the page, I just added some black pen outline on the block letters. Day 21 and week 3 done!

I can’t believe we’re over half way through the month! If you’d like to see a visual overview of how I created each page, you can check out the video above. Let me know in the comments if you are doing Junk Journal July! You can see my 1st week experience here and my 2nd week of prompts here.
